A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
