Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
