The British tennis star secured the most notable success of his career by rallying from a lost first set to defeat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had before beaten Alcaraz on two separate matches, this triumph represents Norrie's initial win over a reigning world number one.

"Massive. So big for me," stated Norrie, who joins as the latest British man in the record books to beat a top-ranked player. "Bouncing back from health issues last year, I fell in the opening stage of qualifiers here. I just tried to enjoy my game in the second half of the year. To get a win like this, it's the most significant win of my professional life, my first win over the top player and arguably the most confident competitor in the world right now."

The British player, positioned No 31, also halted Alcaraz's dominant streak of nine finals in a row and 17 successive elite tournament successes, which represented the finest stretch of outcomes in the Spaniard's early professional path.

Contest Breakdown

Alcaraz seemed to be advancing smoothly towards victory at the start as he eased past the opening set. Yet, the British contender slowly battled back into contention by serving with sharper placement and dragging the Spaniard into lengthy, demanding rallies. His unceasing consistency and reliability gradually made an impact.

During large parts of the battle, the world number one served well but he found it challenging to get his timing right on his baseline shots.
