The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
