US Armed Forces Conducts Deadly Attack in Pacific, Resulting in 4 Fatalities
According to a senior defense spokesperson, the American armed forces executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”
Context and Recent Strikes
This announcement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to increase the military buildup.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Actions Amid Pressure
The administration has encountered growing pressure to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, saying it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.
Although the administration has said the campaign is about stopping drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to suggest a wider political objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the president “aims to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”
This indicates the military campaign may be part of a strategy to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
